Test Drive - October/November

You wake up... in your bed or wherever you went to sleep because your character is exactly where you left them. A revival of the classic LJ/DW game DramaDramaDuck (DDD), D3 is an attempt to capture the spirit of the classic with some adjustments. The name, and the names of many parts of the game, pays homage to the original while allowing it to be something different as I'm not a founder of the original. I just had fun there and thought it sounded fun now.

An Open Lid game, as opposed to a JamJar; your characters remain in their canon worlds and timelines but can access a magical network to connect to other canon's universes. You, with the help of your castmates should you have them, decide how they experience shape your remaining canon, even if it means nothing changes at all.

Welcome to the D3 test drive. Prompts are sparse because this is the game where you make the story. Some optional suggestions are:

A. Hit by an infection

Like it says on the label. Your character has been hit by one of the monthly infections that take place on the network. This particular infection shouldn't alter the personality too much if you're planning to use it as a sample. For more information on infections, read the faq found here.

B. Canon update

Something happen at home you want to share? Or don't want to share, but the network is showing anyway?

C. A call to arms

Trouble is brewing, and you need help? You have worlds full of superheroes to ask for help. That doesn't always mean they can reach you...

That's the down and dirty. Not quite as fancy as you're used to seeing, huh? D3 is a simple game. Or it's not. It's up to you, the player, to make your experience. There will also be a log community so you can do face-to-face meet ups, and anyone can go off-world this time.

To perhaps capture the group game feeling that differentiates D3 from memes, consider noting whether you're open to threadjacks with a subject line like so:

Character | Canon | Open/Not Open to threadjack

We recommend you read the following to help you along:

FAQRulesReservesTaken

Reserves will open for the first time on October 1st and apps will follow October 7th. After they open, they'll remain open instead of having cycles.

I would shoot some of your family in the head

I think we have very different definitions of zombies.

I'm sure they'd enjoy a good hunt!

Really? Well, undead, that's a prerequisite of course, groaning, shambling; they're usually quite single-minded but once you have the hang of giving directions they're very efficient if you want a simple dredge.

If you start with a very fresh corpse, of course, they're capable of much more, and our family has always insisted on our risen dead to be of the freshest kind whenever possible. Why I think Cousin Lurch wasn't even in rigor mortis when he was brought back, and he's an excellent butler who cuts a very mean jitterbug when the mood strikes him!

...I am interested and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

You are the least fucking helpful.
adaptiveimmunities: (everything's great)

w o w. I'm incredibly helpful.
choosetruth: ("stop the presses" really means)

You just want to fucking jitterbug with a zombie. Do you even know what a jitterbug is?
adaptiveimmunities: (you sure about that?)

[personal profile] adaptiveimmunities 2020-10-05 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
First of all, it's a dance from the 1920s, I did pay some attention in history.

Second: Yes I do. I really do.

And here I thought you slept through every part that didn't have zombies in it. You're full of surprises, Shaun Mason.
adaptiveimmunities: (ratings grab)

You thought I was just a pretty face, didn't you?
choosetruth: (then say to the others)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2020-10-29 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Of course not!

You're a middling to average face at best.

[One of her rare lies. Being an asshole to your brother doesn't count, especially since they both know she is EXTREMELY fond of his face.]
adaptiveimmunities: (Really?)

w o w

You're rude when you're trying to convince me not to dance with zombies, you know that?

Oh a newsletter, I haven't written one of those since my school days! Do you really think there would be call for something so mundane, when we have these wonderful devices?
adaptiveimmunities: (hear me out)

[personal profile] adaptiveimmunities 2020-09-28 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, you have a point. But there's always an electronic newsletter, which would come to someone's email, and there's a much wider potential for distribution.
choosetruth: (too weak to keep holding on)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2020-09-28 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ours come back automatically. It's a disease everyone in our world has.

And they are completely mindless and incapable of anything remotely as complicated as a jitterbug.
hemlockgarden: Morticia looking just above the viewer, expression sad and surprised. (Oh no sad)

That sounds less than ideal, what if you wished to be a vampire? Or stay as a witch? Undeath is very popular but I wouldn't want it forced on someone who wished to explore the dark arts in their own ways. I must say that seems very short sighted of someone, especially if they've left things to become so dull. A jitterbug is hardly complicated after all.

Your doctors and scientists and witches are working on a solution, I should hope?
choosetruth: (talk about seizing the day)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2020-09-29 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
We don't really have witches. Not ones who can actually do anything, anyway. Or vampires.

But yes, our doctors and scientists have been working on it for a quarter century now.
