d3memes | Test Drive - October/November

You wake up... in your bed or wherever you went to sleep because your character is exactly where you left them. A revival of the classic LJ/DW game DramaDramaDuck (DDD), D3 is an attempt to capture the spirit of the classic with some adjustments. The name, and the names of many parts of the game, pays homage to the original while allowing it to be something different as I'm not a founder of the original. I just had fun there and thought it sounded fun now.

An Open Lid game, as opposed to a JamJar; your characters remain in their canon worlds and timelines but can access a magical network to connect to other canon's universes. You, with the help of your castmates should you have them, decide how they experience shape your remaining canon, even if it means nothing changes at all.

Welcome to the D3 test drive. Prompts are sparse because this is the game where you make the story. Some optional suggestions are:

A. Hit by an infection

Like it says on the label. Your character has been hit by one of the monthly infections that take place on the network. This particular infection shouldn't alter the personality too much if you're planning to use it as a sample. For more information on infections, read the faq found here.

B. Canon update

Something happen at home you want to share? Or don't want to share, but the network is showing anyway?

C. A call to arms

Trouble is brewing, and you need help? You have worlds full of superheroes to ask for help. That doesn't always mean they can reach you...

That's the down and dirty. Not quite as fancy as you're used to seeing, huh? D3 is a simple game. Or it's not. It's up to you, the player, to make your experience. There will also be a log community so you can do face-to-face meet ups, and anyone can go off-world this time.

To perhaps capture the group game feeling that differentiates D3 from memes, consider noting whether you're open to threadjacks with a subject line like so:

I've been using text-to-speech on my phone but it doesn't fix the issue.

[In fact she's certain he doesn't.]

Maybe you could do that for the people around you though? Then you won't have to make as many excuses.

i don't want to sing in front of people at all.

besides my brother's in a band and my parents are in show business too. they want me to do the same thing so if i just start singing they'll push me into singing classes and think i want to join his band

Maybe you could just sing so bad they won't even want to bother.

they're desperate. i'll just get stuck in a lot of singing lessons.

[ As if that's anything new. ]

I don't know. That's why I asked.

[Though perhaps more importantly:]

[ She had, hadn't she? Izumi got carried away. ]

manga! do you have a favorite one? have you read Lala-Lulu?

I'm not sure I've ever read one. What are they like?

[ Excited, Izumi switches on the camera to show the cover of a nearby manga. The page features a cute girl on the front. ]

[ The word comes out in a sing-song voice, causing him to drop it in frustration. To his delight, his next words are normal. ]

[Oh! Rachel switches back to video easily enough and peers at the image. She's never seen it but in a flash she knows what this is about.]

It's a comic.

[Without singing her voice is a rather calm, even monotone. It matches the even keel of her expression well at least.]

Is it your favorite?

[Since he had mentioned favorites and all.]

[ Grabbing the manga, he holds it up for her to see again, as if she'd understand if she could only gaze on the amazingness of Lala-Lulu. ]

Yeah, she's the best!

[ Real or not, Izumi has a crush. ]

I want to make the best manga one day, but I wouldn't want to beat her, either.

Because surpassing the things you love is too much like leaving them behind.

[It's just a guess of course but... she gets it. That's how she might feel anyhow. Because she hates losing what she loves.]

I'd never leave her behind, but I can't do that to her, either.

[ She's not real, but Izumi feels a real protectiveness toward her. ]

But she wants everybody to do their best so it'd be wrong if I didn't.

[Rachel's typically cool gaze and expression imperceptibly softens. If she can understand anything it's that aching need to protect something you love.]

Mm, so do your best. And do it for her.

[ Why does he like this kid more than most people he meets? Why does she understand him more than the rest of the world? He likes her.

When Izumi stands, only his lower legs and feet become visible. ]

I can draw you in a panel as an extra character for supporting me.

[Oh? She blinks a moment, look gently curious.]

You can?

[ He nods.

If she suspects it'll be good, however, she really will be disappointed... ]

Cute kids are popular in manga, anyway. Don't worry. I'll make sure the villain won't get to you.

[ Sitting back down with a sketchbook in hand, he flips through the pages. If she looks closely enough, she'll see severly badly drawn figures. ]

[Ironically enough the villain did already get her sort of but details.

What she does get details on though, while not completely, are those sketches. And they're just.

... Don't make a pained expression, Rachel. Please.]

[ If Izumi had been the author of her story, she'd have been safe. Likely, with his 'talent', he won't be the author of anyone's story. ]

[ The exciting page he wants to show her looks a bit like a blob monster that's trying to take the form of a human. ]

It's probably going to be one of my characters.
