Test Drive - October/November

You wake up... in your bed or wherever you went to sleep because your character is exactly where you left them. A revival of the classic LJ/DW game DramaDramaDuck (DDD), D3 is an attempt to capture the spirit of the classic with some adjustments. The name, and the names of many parts of the game, pays homage to the original while allowing it to be something different as I'm not a founder of the original. I just had fun there and thought it sounded fun now.

An Open Lid game, as opposed to a JamJar; your characters remain in their canon worlds and timelines but can access a magical network to connect to other canon's universes. You, with the help of your castmates should you have them, decide how they experience shape your remaining canon, even if it means nothing changes at all.

Welcome to the D3 test drive. Prompts are sparse because this is the game where you make the story. Some optional suggestions are:

A. Hit by an infection

Like it says on the label. Your character has been hit by one of the monthly infections that take place on the network. This particular infection shouldn't alter the personality too much if you're planning to use it as a sample. For more information on infections, read the faq found here.

B. Canon update

Something happen at home you want to share? Or don't want to share, but the network is showing anyway?

C. A call to arms

Trouble is brewing, and you need help? You have worlds full of superheroes to ask for help. That doesn't always mean they can reach you...


That's the down and dirty. Not quite as fancy as you're used to seeing, huh? D3 is a simple game. Or it's not. It's up to you, the player, to make your experience. There will also be a log community so you can do face-to-face meet ups, and anyone can go off-world this time.

To perhaps capture the group game feeling that differentiates D3 from memes, consider noting whether you're open to threadjacks with a subject line like so:

Reserves will open for the first time on October 1st and apps will follow October 7th. After they open, they'll remain open instead of having cycles.

[It's plain old apple juice. Putting aside that Ash is underage at normal times, he's in a much smaller body now.]

[ It's almost impressive how sarcastic he can manage to be, even while looking so young. At this age, he really does almost look like a cherub with his large green eyes and platinum hair. ]

Good to know you're into looking after kids now.

[ He does take the seat, but not the drink. ]

[Of all the expectations he has of Ash, gratitude was never one of them. Setting the glass down within reach in case Ash changes his mind, he points downward for emphasis.]

No. Here.

Already going senile? It's not a GPS. You picked the place.

[Sip. If he waits a few moments, Ash will get curious enough what he's getting at, humor him, and answer.]

[Feet not even touching the ground anymore, Ash sighs and sits back. ]

Some kind of bed and breakfast in the Bahamas. Need help finding your shoes, too?

I actually have several pairs. Dominica is filled with natural terrain to explore, it's important to have the right gear when you're going out. It's a relief you didn't end up in the wilderness.


[Dominica, if Ash is up to speed on his geography, is in the Caribbean rather than the Bahamas.]

[ A lot of this was so that Blanca could play his little game. ]

I look like a kid, you act like one. Too bad you didn't get hit with the infection. Your body could match your mind.

I guess you could call it a childlike curiosity. But isn't it interesting to you, too, that the transporter can operate purely by intent? Down to a corrective feature that can cross quite a distance.

My phones are up to date, but they still think I want to type 'grease' instead of 'geese' half the time.

It pinpointed. Even if I'd known, I didn't know your exact address. We didn't really keep in touch after you went into retirement.

It's interesting, but you're looking at me as a kid. It's not the craziest part of whatever this is.

Oh. Right. You're normally a slightly older kid now, aren't you?

Retirement's rotting your brain. 7 years is a lot more than 'slightly'. I guess I should've known you'd go downhill, tricking me all the way over here. You must be pretty bored.

You told 'em I was coming over while pretending to discourage me.

[ Ash finally reaches for the drink. ]

Unless she was in your room when we were talking. I'm hoping for that one.

[It's plain old apple juice, despite being the tawny color of some harder drinks.]

I thought it better to be prepared is all. When you approach a feral kitten, you shouldn't think you've tamed it just because it feels like being pampered at the time.

And you'd be just as satisfied if the kitten ended up in a weird place somewhere.

See? I was right about having nothing but crap-level adults in my life.

I can't say I expected to still qualify as "in your life" anymore. Did you want to be taken in and taken care of?

Yeah, me either, but here you are. I didn't expect to look like a 10-year-old again either, but life likes surprises.

The juice thing's not funny, either.

You hardly gave me enough advance notice to pick up Diet Pepsi.

When you say it like that, it's creepy. Like you got some portfolio of everybody you meet and you just brush up on it sometimes.

Give me some of yours.

It's not creepy to remember your drink, is it? And your body's in no condition for hard liquor.

[Why does he look like he's enjoying this sip more than the past ones?]

I didn't plan to down a bottle, but there's a lot of guys letting their kids try beer. I'm not going to die from it.

I'm not denying you because I don't think that you know your way around alcohol. I know the training provided by the Monsieur, outside of mine, has primed you to appreciate things like this as well.

Then what's the problem? You get stuck in a kid's body and tell me you don't need a drink.

You can't straddle two different worlds forever, you know: being a spoiled child and demanding the perks of your precociousness in the same breath.
