Test Drive - October/November

You wake up... in your bed or wherever you went to sleep because your character is exactly where you left them. A revival of the classic LJ/DW game DramaDramaDuck (DDD), D3 is an attempt to capture the spirit of the classic with some adjustments. The name, and the names of many parts of the game, pays homage to the original while allowing it to be something different as I'm not a founder of the original. I just had fun there and thought it sounded fun now.

An Open Lid game, as opposed to a JamJar; your characters remain in their canon worlds and timelines but can access a magical network to connect to other canon's universes. You, with the help of your castmates should you have them, decide how they experience shape your remaining canon, even if it means nothing changes at all.

Welcome to the D3 test drive. Prompts are sparse because this is the game where you make the story. Some optional suggestions are:

A. Hit by an infection

Like it says on the label. Your character has been hit by one of the monthly infections that take place on the network. This particular infection shouldn't alter the personality too much if you're planning to use it as a sample. For more information on infections, read the faq found here.

B. Canon update

Something happen at home you want to share? Or don't want to share, but the network is showing anyway?

C. A call to arms

Trouble is brewing, and you need help? You have worlds full of superheroes to ask for help. That doesn't always mean they can reach you...


That's the down and dirty. Not quite as fancy as you're used to seeing, huh? D3 is a simple game. Or it's not. It's up to you, the player, to make your experience. There will also be a log community so you can do face-to-face meet ups, and anyone can go off-world this time.

To perhaps capture the group game feeling that differentiates D3 from memes, consider noting whether you're open to threadjacks with a subject line like so:

Reserves will open for the first time on October 1st and apps will follow October 7th. After they open, they'll remain open instead of having cycles.

Anyway, aren't you American? Why were you eating natto in the first place? Shouldn't Americans eat hamburger?

[ Without hesitation, Ash scrunches his face. ]

That's another gross food you can keep away. If you're going to guess our food, go with hot dogs. I just know a Japanese guy who's trying to get me to test some stuff, but it's disgusting enough that I thought it might be some kind of prank.

Hey, hey, maybe your Japanese guy is just trying to make sure you live a long and healthy life!

What? Natto the only healthy food you guys have in Japan? The fish or vegetables not doing enough?

[ Ash really isn't going to die because he eats too much. ]

Every little bit helps!!

Anyway, natto is like a...a superfood, I guess. The health benefits are just more than eating ordinary vegetables and fish and stuff. I bet this person is trying to take good care of you and you should appreciate them more!!

I never said I didn't.

[ He'll complain, but he's thankful that Eiji is willing to cook for him. ]

But there are other foods you can eat that are good for you. I'm gonna stick to those.

You should ask your friend to make you okonomiyaki. You'd like that better than natto, I bet!!

[Plus he feels like this foreigner could use some fattening up.]

Then you can add the ingredients you like most!

Okonomiyaki? What's that?

[ He wants to ask the kid what it translates to in English, but Ash doesn't know if the guy knows English. ]

It's like a grilled pancake with cabbage and yummy sweet sauce on top and whatever you like tossed into it!! I highly recommend shrimp and cheese but you can put many different things into okonomiyaki and it will still taste delicious!

Like a grilled pancake? Is the cabbage replacing the pancake, or does the pancake have cabbage in it? If it doesn't have the pancake batter, it sounds pretty good, but I'm not looking for cabbage pancakes.

Picky~

You shouldn't complain about something until you try it!! Okonomiyaki is the best and the cabbage just makes it crispy and crunchy and fresh!

[ It actually doesn't sound horrible... Just weird. ]

What else? If I throw something better at him, maybe he'll stop the torture foods.

Gyudon, tonkatsu, nabemono...

[He's just rattling off his favorite foods now.]

Yakisoba too but it tastes best at a summer fesitval!!

None of that actually translates to something I know.

[ But the guy's trying. ]

Start with seafood. You guys are an island, right? The fish are probably pretty good. I like shrimp.

THE POINT IS TO TRY NEW THINGS, NOT JUST WHAT YOU KNOW.

Come to think of it, you should really try the authentic versions!! Why not just come over?

If I don't even know what it is, it could turn out as bad as natto!

To Japan? What, offering to feed me?

If I'm recommending it then it has to be great!

And yeah, come for a festival and then you can try lots of different foods and decide which you like best!

You'd recommend natto. You're not gaining trust.

I didn't recommend it, I said it's good for you, like a trial to overome! The other things I highly recommend to eat for the pure enjoyment of filling your stomach with delicious food!!

Dai Ginza Matsuri is happening next week in Tokyo. You can come then!

What kind of festival is it, anyway?

I think there's a parade? It would be my first Ginza festival too!! Since normally I live in Nagano not Tokyo but I'm here for baseball!

We can find out together! Either way, there will most certainly be food!

[ Ash wouldn't say the kid's energy is infectious, at least not to people like him, but he doesn't hate. What's it with Japanese people?]

[ If the kid — guy, Ash supposes; he just looks young, hadn't been so earnest before, the polite ending would have seemed sarcastic. Somehow, though, it seems sincere.
