Test Drive - October/November

You wake up... in your bed or wherever you went to sleep because your character is exactly where you left them. A revival of the classic LJ/DW game DramaDramaDuck (DDD), D3 is an attempt to capture the spirit of the classic with some adjustments. The name, and the names of many parts of the game, pays homage to the original while allowing it to be something different as I'm not a founder of the original. I just had fun there and thought it sounded fun now.

An Open Lid game, as opposed to a JamJar; your characters remain in their canon worlds and timelines but can access a magical network to connect to other canon's universes. You, with the help of your castmates should you have them, decide how they experience shape your remaining canon, even if it means nothing changes at all.

Welcome to the D3 test drive. Prompts are sparse because this is the game where you make the story. Some optional suggestions are:

A. Hit by an infection

Like it says on the label. Your character has been hit by one of the monthly infections that take place on the network. This particular infection shouldn't alter the personality too much if you're planning to use it as a sample. For more information on infections, read the faq found here.

B. Canon update

Something happen at home you want to share? Or don't want to share, but the network is showing anyway?

C. A call to arms

Trouble is brewing, and you need help? You have worlds full of superheroes to ask for help. That doesn't always mean they can reach you...

That's the down and dirty. Not quite as fancy as you're used to seeing, huh? D3 is a simple game. Or it's not. It's up to you, the player, to make your experience. There will also be a log community so you can do face-to-face meet ups, and anyone can go off-world this time.

To perhaps capture the group game feeling that differentiates D3 from memes, consider noting whether you're open to threadjacks with a subject line like so:

Character | Canon | Open/Not Open to threadjack

We recommend you read the following to help you along:

FAQRulesReservesTaken

Reserves will open for the first time on October 1st and apps will follow October 7th. After they open, they'll remain open instead of having cycles.

How many of you are from worlds with zombies?

I've noticed a surprising lack of discussion of the undead on this forum. Outside of fiction, that is.

Some of my family are zombies!

[personal profile] hemlockgarden 2020-09-28 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
There are worlds without zombies? How positively dreadful. I wonder if this could be fixed? I'm sure Grandmama has a few spells to raise the dead that should work as long as their worlds have a good supply of eye of newt. No one should have to go without zombies, they really do make the best hordes.
choosetruth: (i'm seeing kids standing tall)

I would shoot some of your family in the head

[personal profile] choosetruth 2020-09-28 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I think we have very different definitions of zombies.
hemlockgarden: Morticia looking amused, smiling camera left with her hand held under her chin. (Default)

I'm sure they'd enjoy a good hunt!

[personal profile] hemlockgarden 2020-09-28 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? Well, undead, that's a prerequisite of course, groaning, shambling; they're usually quite single-minded but once you have the hang of giving directions they're very efficient if you want a simple dredge.

If you start with a very fresh corpse, of course, they're capable of much more, and our family has always insisted on our risen dead to be of the freshest kind whenever possible. Why I think Cousin Lurch wasn't even in rigor mortis when he was brought back, and he's an excellent butler who cuts a very mean jitterbug when the mood strikes him!

Oh a newsletter, I haven't written one of those since my school days! Do you really think there would be call for something so mundane, when we have these wonderful devices?
adaptiveimmunities: (hear me out)

[personal profile] adaptiveimmunities 2020-09-28 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, you have a point. But there's always an electronic newsletter, which would come to someone's email, and there's a much wider potential for distribution.

Ours come back automatically. It's a disease everyone in our world has.

And they are completely mindless and incapable of anything remotely as complicated as a jitterbug.
hemlockgarden: Morticia looking just above the viewer, expression sad and surprised. (Oh no sad)

[personal profile] hemlockgarden 2020-09-28 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds less than ideal, what if you wished to be a vampire? Or stay as a witch? Undeath is very popular but I wouldn't want it forced on someone who wished to explore the dark arts in their own ways. I must say that seems very short sighted of someone, especially if they've left things to become so dull. A jitterbug is hardly complicated after all.

Your doctors and scientists and witches are working on a solution, I should hope?
choosetruth: (talk about seizing the day)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2020-09-29 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
We don't really have witches. Not ones who can actually do anything, anyway. Or vampires.

But yes, our doctors and scientists have been working on it for a quarter century now.

I mean if you are reckless enough, you can, in fact, create some.

But why would you?
choosetruth: (2hOA1arWRTI5WWZg0kI9X0)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2020-09-28 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't. I like living. And I like not being responsible for the death of entire worlds, which is why I'm not using the transporters.

I'm more curious about if what's happened in my world has also happened in others.
madame_nerium: (gentlemen aren't nice)

In a small scale, some fool got ahold of some necromancy. But it isn't large scale.
choosetruth: (bex1)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2020-09-29 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That's pretty different than where I'm from. For one thing, we don't have magic. For another, there's no such thing as small scale with our zombies.

You actually blog hard enough that you reach the end of the blogosphere in our universe, break into the blogdom on another plane all together and you're still talking about zombies.

That's super on brand, George.
choosetruth: (too cool)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2020-09-29 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Just making sure you won't find the multiverse boring.

And figuring out just how much interaction is safe. We don't want to be the ones that start a zombie apocalypse in another world.

Not like in the movies or anything, but they sort of do, or did. You don't really see stuff like that anymore unless a mage or a servant is involved though.

A servant?

No zombies here. Aliens and superheroes and stuff.
Do you have real zombies? The kind that eat brain? The aliens suck, but the superhero thing is probably a lot better to have than zombies.
choosetruth: (bex2)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2020-10-28 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
They don't have that discriminating a palate. They also eat the rest of you. But yes, they're very real.

No aliens or superheroes outside the TV.

[personal profile] shootswebs 2020-10-29 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that supposed to be reassuring? Because that's not reassuring.
Does shooting them through the brain still work?
If that changes, knowing monster movies did me zero good.

Yeah, it sounds like that's true for a lot of people here.
It's actually really cool.
They can fly and shoot lazers and have really cool weapons.
