Test Drive - October/November

You wake up... in your bed or wherever you went to sleep because your character is exactly where you left them. A revival of the classic LJ/DW game DramaDramaDuck (DDD), D3 is an attempt to capture the spirit of the classic with some adjustments. The name, and the names of many parts of the game, pays homage to the original while allowing it to be something different as I'm not a founder of the original. I just had fun there and thought it sounded fun now.

An Open Lid game, as opposed to a JamJar; your characters remain in their canon worlds and timelines but can access a magical network to connect to other canon's universes. You, with the help of your castmates should you have them, decide how they experience shape your remaining canon, even if it means nothing changes at all.

Welcome to the D3 test drive. Prompts are sparse because this is the game where you make the story. Some optional suggestions are:

A. Hit by an infection

Like it says on the label. Your character has been hit by one of the monthly infections that take place on the network. This particular infection shouldn't alter the personality too much if you're planning to use it as a sample. For more information on infections, read the faq found here.

B. Canon update

Something happen at home you want to share? Or don't want to share, but the network is showing anyway?

C. A call to arms

Trouble is brewing, and you need help? You have worlds full of superheroes to ask for help. That doesn't always mean they can reach you...


That's the down and dirty. Not quite as fancy as you're used to seeing, huh? D3 is a simple game. Or it's not. It's up to you, the player, to make your experience. There will also be a log community so you can do face-to-face meet ups, and anyone can go off-world this time.

To perhaps capture the group game feeling that differentiates D3 from memes, consider noting whether you're open to threadjacks with a subject line like so:

A. Infection (Backwards Day)

[ Frustrated at his lack of ability to speak, Light tries to type the words but it comes out as backward as well. For anyone able to translate, he's saying 'Something has happened to my voice. I've done some tests, but everything I say seems to be backward. 'So, instead, he begins to use hand gestures, pointing first to his mouth and then, after stopping to grab one, a mirror. A reflection isn't a perfect comparison, but it's the nearest comparable object nearby. ]

B. Dreams

[ Light's learned that if he chooses to make a post, it's less likely to sneak up on him. So, he'll do his weekly duty. ]

It's almost time for the college exams which means I'm closer to being able to join the NPA. I know it seems rushed since I still have to finish college, but it's still a big step.

It made me wonder. How many of you have a dream for when you're older? Or, how many of you achieved your dream already?

C. Advice

I've noticed that if we post here, it's not as likely to surprise us, but things are getting busier. College is coming up, and I have a date soon, too.

Between studying and trying to have a social life, I don't usually have a lot of time for social media. Has anybody else had any luck with keeping it off until you have time to post?

I will be attending law school next semester. It seems we're driven by similar callings. But I think it's too trifling to call concrete goals with a clear path to success something as trite as a dream.

[Mikami has such a warm, fuzzy way of saying he likes you and approves of your dreams and wishes you success.]

I don't think dreams and goals have to exclusive. You don't achieve either if you're not willing to work for them.

Congratulations on law school. It's a prestigious occupation. Which one will you be attending?

Kyoto Daigaku. It's also my undergraduate institution.

I hadn't understood why prosecutors were considered prestigious until recently; one eliminates evil from society, and society defaulted towards tolerance of evil more than good.

To-oh University is my first pick. I haven't made it in yet, but I do well on the practice exams so I'm confident.

It's not an easy profession, and it makes a lot of enemies. It takes a lot of work to make it through the program, and it's not something everybody can do. It's something we have to have in our society but like doctors, it takes a lot of skill to be successful.

You are precisely the sort of police officer I hope to have in my precinct. Someone who pleases everyone and seeks not to make enemies is not an ally to anyone, much less justice.

I'm going to join the NPA one day. Making everybody happy would mean releasing the criminals. It's not really something I can do if I want to protect anybody.

Is that a problem in your world? Does law enforcement let people go unfairly?

God stepped in.

God eliminates those the law overlooks.

This isn't a hopeful religious sermon but a confirmed phenomenon. Interpol and each nation's law enforcement are seeking him to hold him accountable.

[ This sounds familiar. ]

Does he go by another name?

Kira. It had originally been from the English word "Killer." It's crass, but overcoming a simple PR problem hasn't been beyond God. Even in English speaking announcements, it's pronounced as Kira.

[ They're from the same world and that means Light has to tread carefully. He can't openly admit to agreeing that Kira is right, but this man seems to be on his side.

As a prosecutor. Because he understands the value of justice and that it hasn't been found in courtrooms. ]

Why do you call him a god?

Isn't it self evident?

It seems to be to you, but you haven't said what he's managed to do.

He eliminates those society does not need, shaping the world in his just image.

God is more real than any believed in by any other faith on earth; there is no "faith" required. To deny him would be to deny a live televised execution.

[ While it's nice to hear a positive spin on execution, it's not a moment Light recalls with fondness.

For a moment, there's an internal debate. Publically, he has to denounce Kira. He does even in the real world. However, he can spin this easily enough should anyone see it and become suspicious. After all, who's more likely to know his identity? Supporters or those chasing him? ]

He's managed an execution on live television, but they haven't been able to catch him?

I think I'm in some kind of middle. On the way there, but not fully there yet. It's a bit of a gamble with a band so I plan to go to college as well. I just don't know what yet.

[worldcleansing]

That's a smart decision. Things like music can sometimes consume musicians, but that's probably what it takes to make it in a popular profession. Having a safety net means you can take more risks, though.

Do you play, or do you sing?

[uenosama]

It's tough trying to study and focus on things that are not music, it's true. I'm the lead guitarist and main composer, so I kind of always have melodies float in my head. I don't sing, however. Never been that good at it.

I'm suddenly glad my sister can't see anything on here. She really admires musicians. It would turn into her asking me to get tickets to a concern that happens in another world.

[ Admires actually equates to fangirling. She's a young teenage girl so that probably doesn't shock anyone. ]

That, I would be really flattered about. While we aren't that new on the music scene, my band has been playing together for a while, we are quite new at being a full band that performs full songs. We didn't have a lead singer until recently.

Have you given a concert yet? As hard as it is to make a break in the music industry, it'd be exciting when you do.

We had several performances, yes.

We also competed at CAC- a competition for up and coming bands, and got second place

Was it the type of competition that results in a contract? I've heard even those who place lower than first can get scouted.
