Test Drive - October/November

You wake up... in your bed or wherever you went to sleep because your character is exactly where you left them. A revival of the classic LJ/DW game DramaDramaDuck (DDD), D3 is an attempt to capture the spirit of the classic with some adjustments. The name, and the names of many parts of the game, pays homage to the original while allowing it to be something different as I'm not a founder of the original. I just had fun there and thought it sounded fun now.

An Open Lid game, as opposed to a JamJar; your characters remain in their canon worlds and timelines but can access a magical network to connect to other canon's universes. You, with the help of your castmates should you have them, decide how they experience shape your remaining canon, even if it means nothing changes at all.

Welcome to the D3 test drive. Prompts are sparse because this is the game where you make the story. Some optional suggestions are:

A. Hit by an infection

Like it says on the label. Your character has been hit by one of the monthly infections that take place on the network. This particular infection shouldn't alter the personality too much if you're planning to use it as a sample. For more information on infections, read the faq found here.

B. Canon update

Something happen at home you want to share? Or don't want to share, but the network is showing anyway?

C. A call to arms

Trouble is brewing, and you need help? You have worlds full of superheroes to ask for help. That doesn't always mean they can reach you...


That's the down and dirty. Not quite as fancy as you're used to seeing, huh? D3 is a simple game. Or it's not. It's up to you, the player, to make your experience. There will also be a log community so you can do face-to-face meet ups, and anyone can go off-world this time.

To perhaps capture the group game feeling that differentiates D3 from memes, consider noting whether you're open to threadjacks with a subject line like so:

Reserves will open for the first time on October 1st and apps will follow October 7th. After they open, they'll remain open instead of having cycles.

This might be the first time you've ever not met or surpassed my expectations. [It's hard to tell by his tone if that's disappointment in his voice, or simply a self-aware backhanded compliment.] You're not aware of how vulnerable you are like that? You don't live such an ideal life that even a very skilled child your size would be safe.

Even a weak adult for appearances would be in your better interests. This could go on for a few days.

I don't need you telling me that. I'm not about to trust a random adult, either.

I'm someplace safe. I have enough food. I'm going to wait it out. Even if I had somebody playing guardian, I wouldn't be walking around.

A random adult? You don't have a single one that you can call on if you have an emergency?

Yeah, let me run to the adult store.

You've been away too long. Where in the hell do you think one would magically appear from?

[sentimentalstoic]

[Blanca takes a moment to reach off to the side, pull a drink to himself and sip, still peering at Ash in bemusement from the comfort of his retirement villa several thousand miles away, almost as if waiting for something.]

[ He'll keep waiting. Since Ash knows he's waiting, he'll just stare into the camera with eyes larger and rounder than Blanca might remember. It's harder to be taken seriously as a child. ]

[Another sip. Blanca has always been a patient man.

Maybe the answer to where he would suppose anything might magically appear from is more obvious when he's staring into the oversized green eyes of someone inflicted by magic, the very magic powering this conversation. But Ash is a bright lad, he'll get there on his own if he lets him.

Or he'll snap.]

[ Ash is there. He's intentionally not taking the bait.

So, when Blanca doesn't answer, he continues. ]

Like I said: not a trustworthy one around.

Ah, I see now. You're protective of them.

I was almost worried you somehow hadn't managed to make any friends, but it's the opposite.

You're reading words that aren't on the page.

I'm leading a gang now. That's all the more reason you know what you can trust them with and what you can't. Nobody's going to see me like this.

And the people here, you don't want entangled in gang life.

You think I turned into some kind of saint since you've been gone?

I think you have always been a better person than your environment would allow.

Sounds like I'm using some pretty good excuses.

I know what I'm doing. I just don't need any help. Unless you want to end your fun vacation, go out of retirement, and babysit.

I'm flattered that you find me trustworthy, but I'll have to pass.

I don't. Somebody for hire isn't somebody to trust. But I wanted to hear you say no.

If it means so much to you, I'll decline to intrude on you any time.

Just stick to your word. You're getting old now. Coming out of retirement might make you pull your back.

They have masseuses here who do a wonderful job of looking after a man's back. Unfortunately, I don't think it would be best for you to come here, either.

I'd almost think you're trying to stay away from me.

[sentimentalstoic]

There are several women it would be hard to explain my having a small child to.

[Is that something you should tell someone like Ash when you don't want them to come over? Maybe he's getting soft when his opponent looks like a child.]

[jadedlynx]

But you're right. It's pretty dangerous to be here all by myself. If you're going through them so fast, they'd understand a kid.

It's also not safe for children your age to travel so far alone.

Just a pop, and I can be right there. Just hang a sock on the door. I know what it means. I'll only ask her if she's going to be my new mom if she looks nice. If there's such a big selection, I'm going to be picky.

You could end up someplace completely unexpected.
